Abbey View Produce

Following their investment into a new building that includes a host of energy-efficient technologies, Abbey View Produce wanted to add onsite solar energy generation, both to reduce energy costs and to cement their status as a leader in low CO2 production for fruits and vegetables.

BeBa Energy designed and installed a 250kw solution that would reduce carbon emissions by 83,000kg each year, totalling a reduction in over 2 million kg during its lifespan. In addition, the system will provide an income of more than £1 million over the next 20 years, as part of the Government-backed Feed in Tariff Scheme.

We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint because it is the right thing to do, but it is also good for business because our customers like it... [BeBa] did an excellent job of installing and commissioning the system, which is already performing well and is likely to pay for itself in around six years.

Abbey View Produce expect to use 90% of the energy generated onsite, giving them the power they need to run their operation, reducing the need to purchase that energy, and protecting against future rises in energy costs.

Abbey View Produce

Abbey View Produce grow and supply vegetables, fruit and salads to retailers including the supermarket chain Sainsburys. Specialising in cucumbers, they are based in Essex and are leaders in the field.

After investing £3 million in a new, energy-efficient processing plant and packhouse, Abbey View Produce wanted to continue to expand their commitment to sustainability.

Rising energy costs were a particular concern, despite the measures they had already put in place, so Abbey View Produce approached BeBa to see if their large roof space would be suitable for solar PV.
